Electronically Controlled Anesthesia with The Wand® by Milestone

Fear of injections is one of the primary reasons patients delay visiting the dentist. Electronically controlled anesthesia using the The Wand® system allows precise and consistent delivery of anesthetic, significantly reducing discomfort during the injection process.

Why Does Anesthesia Cause Fear?

Studies in Europe and the United States indicate that fear of the needle is a leading factor in avoiding dental visits. Many patients postpone necessary treatment due to the visual impression of the traditional metal syringe and the anticipation of pain.

In reality, discomfort during anesthesia is not caused primarily by the needle itself, but by the rate at which the anesthetic solution is injected into the tissues.

How The Wand® Works

The system replaces the conventional metal syringe with an ergonomically designed handpiece connected to thin plastic microtubing. At its tip, a very fine and short needle—similar to an insulin needle—is used.

The flow rate of the anesthetic is electronically controlled rather than manually regulated by the dentist. The delivery is extremely slow and steady (approximately one drop every two seconds), allowing the tissues to adapt gradually without sudden expansion. This significantly reduces the sensation of pressure or pain.

In many cases, patients are not even aware of the exact moment the anesthesia has been completed.

Advantages of Electronically Controlled Anesthesia

The smaller, less intimidating appearance of the device reduces patient anxiety from the beginning of the appointment. The controlled and consistent flow of anesthetic contributes to a more comfortable experience, enhancing trust and allowing treatment to proceed without fear.

The result is a calmer, more positive dental experience.
