A Dental Face Lift is a comprehensive anti-aging dental approach focused on restoring worn teeth and re-establishing lost vertical dimension. Through targeted dental reconstruction, facial muscle support, smile harmony, and a more youthful expression can be restored—without surgical intervention.
As we age, facial changes are not caused solely by wrinkles. Alterations in the teeth also play a critical role. When teeth are lost, worn down, or shortened over time, the vertical dimension of the face decreases. The upper and lower jaws move closer together, the corners of the mouth begin to droop, and the overall expression may appear more severe or fatigued.
Tooth loss is frequently accompanied by bone resorption, which can cause the cheeks to flatten and the face to appear more skeletal. Even without tooth loss, natural tooth wear—especially in patients with bruxism—reduces smile height and accelerates the aging appearance.
In cases involving loss of vertical dimension, a custom acrylic occlusal splint is fabricated and worn
on the upper teeth for approximately one to two months. Its purpose is to allow the stomatognathic system to adapt to the newly established vertical height before proceeding with definitive restorations.
The splint also assists in relaxing the facial muscles. In patients with bruxism, it may reduce associated symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, shoulder tension, and discomfort in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
Following the adaptation period, final reconstruction of both posterior and anterior teeth is performed. Anterior teeth may be restored using composite resin or porcelain and can be lengthened to re-establish proper smile display.
By restoring the lost vertical dimension, muscular support improves, facial symmetry is enhanced, and the overall appearance becomes more relaxed and youthful. In many cases, the aesthetic transformation is both visible and significant.
This approach is indicated for individuals presenting with extensive tooth wear, missing teeth, drooping mouth corners, pronounced bruxism, or those who notice that their teeth no longer show when smiling as they once did.
